About the Opportunity
JOB SUMMARY:
With a focus on D'Amore-McKim School of Business graduate programs, advise and counsel full- and part-time students and their families on the availability of financial aid, the delivery process for receiving it, and the reconciliation processes required to insure that financial aid funds are transferred to students' accounts. Review student applications, perform verification procedures, review/evaluate appeals, and intercede for students with participating departments (School administrators, student accounts, registrar, and co-op).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of Title IV regulations, federal Financial Aid needs analysis preferred.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate well by telephone and email.
- Working knowledge of PowerFAIDs, Banner, Microsoft Word and Excel preferred.
- Experience in student personnel administration preferably in financial aid or college admissions.
- Skills and knowledge required for this position are typically acquired through the completion of an Associate's Degree, certificate program, or equivalent and one or more years of relevant work experience.
- Ability to work a flexible work schedule required.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Administration of federal, state and Northeastern based financial assistance. Review student application. Perform federal needs analysis to determine eligibility. Review and evaluate student appeals. Verify information according to federal process. Implement NU based awarding guidelines
- Counsel and advise students and parents on financial aid process, awarding and financing options. Through appointments, e-mail, written correspondence, telephone communication explain financial aid process, NU billing procedures. Provide conflict resolution with student accounts office, lenders and guarantor. Monitor satisfactory academic progress.
- Represent the financial aid office at Open Houses, student meetings, workshops and part-time evening programs with recruitment and advising programs through advisement of the financial aid process.
- Supervise activities and provide technical support for staff assistants and work study students to assure that procedures meet federal and NU requirements. Coordinate with staff to assure that the needs of the counselor caseload is met.
- Perform the per-term audit of federal eligibility: adjusting aid and monitoring satisfactory academic progress; complete Return of Title IV Fund calculations for withdrawn students within the established timeframe.
