(Primary Location for Job Responsibilities) Our Kennesaw campus is located at 1000 Chastain Road NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144.

Our Marietta campus is located at 1100 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta, GA 30060.

Job Summary

Responsible for the administration of all financial operations of the university, including the development of a financial strategy and setting metrics tied to that strategy, ongoing development and monitoring of internal control systems designed to preserve and protect university assets, reporting accurate financial information, monitoring adherence to the budget, and developing long-term financial and operational strategies. This position works collaboratively with leaders across the University, including the President and Cabinet. The role also works with officials of the University System of Georgia, other university system institutions, and local, state, and federal government units. Units that report specifically to the vice president include accounting, accounts payable, cash management, contracts administration, financial reporting, payroll, procurement, and the budget office. The position reports to the Executive Vice President for Administration & Finance.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Financial Leadership
  • Develops and implements financial strategies to achieve the University's long-term goals.
  • Advises University leadership on financial planning, budgeting, cash flow, and policy matters.
  • Oversees preparation of the annual budget such that organizational needs and strategic priorities are identified and translated into a financial plan.
  • Monitors external events and developments to ensure that budget preparation incorporates the most current information and trends

Financial Operating & Reporting
  • Receives and has custody of all monies which come to the University for the purposes of the University and responsible for the proper handling of such funds in accordance with applicable state statutes and with the policies set by the Board of Regents
  • Oversees preparation of accurate financial statements, budgets, and reports.
  • Prepares and maintains long-term financial forecasts for all the university's funds
  • Oversees the administration, accounting and reporting of grants and contracts.
  • Ensures proper internal controls to safeguard University assets.

Resource Management
  • Monitors cash flow and cash reserves to provide maximum practical protection and highest possible yield of idle funds while ensuring statutory compliance.
  • Coordinates and monitors debt issuance with external financial advisors, bond counsel, etc.
  • Ensures the timely collection of all accounts receivable
  • Coordinates the purchasing activities of the university, including contract management
  • Ensures that the university is in compliance with financial, regulatory, legal, administrative, contractual, procedural, and accounting standards
  • Monitors the university's financial condition and provide budget information to budget supervisors

Leadership & Team Development

  • Oversee, mentor, and develop fiscal services professionals for high performance.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to achieve the University's strategic goals.


Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in accounting, finance, or a related field .

Required Experience
Ten (10) years of experience in a managerial or leadership role in a complex organization

Current, valid and unrestricted driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Educational Qualifications
An advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field

Certified Public Account (CPA) or other relevant professional certifications

Previous experience at a public university

Strong acumen and understanding of public higher education budgeting and finance.

Knowledgeable of industry standards, trends, and emerging practices to position the University at the leading edge of higher education management

Strong leadership and managerial skills with commitment to transparency.

Support staff development and a strong team environment

Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills

Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite)
