Systems Administrator
Summary:
The Systems Administrator will be responsible for implementing, maintaining, optimizing, and upgrading several critical University servers and IT assets. This position will serve in a primary role to several critical services, and as such must be willing to adhere to occasional non-standard work hours and be able to respond to emergency outages.

Education/Experience:
Bachelors degree plus three years of Information Technology experience in a large complex organization with two years of experience providing Microsoft Windows server systems administration support as part of an Information Technology department in a complex multi-server, multi-site environment or equivalent combination of education and experience. Active industry certifications from major vendors such as Microsoft or Cisco are a plus.
Valid driver license with good driving record: must be insurable. Must be able to drive periodically between physical campus sites.
Knowledge/Skills/Ability:
- Proficient with Windows Server 2008, 2012, 2016, 2019,2022
- 2 - 3 Years managing and troubleshooting Microsoft Active Directory Including:
o Multi-Site Environment
o Active Directory Security
o Azure Active Directory
o Creating, applying, and managing Group Policy Objects
o Account provisioning which includes and is not limited to users, groups, and workstations
- Proficient with Enterprise Security Best Practices
- Proficient with Enterprise Backup Technologies
- Proficient with User Account Single Sign-On Integrations
- Proficient with Multi-tiered Application Architectures and Deployments
- Proficient with RAID; Storage Area Network (SAN) technologies, including iSCSI and Fiber Channel, is a plus.
- Proficient with server virtualization technologies, principles and strategies.
- Proficient with writing Technical Documentation and User Guides
- 2 - 3 Years experience with PowerShell Scripting
- Ability to identify and adapt to skills including client support, training, resource and project management, administration and systems integration.
- Experience with Microsoft O365.
- Experience with VMware vSphere is a plus
- Experience with multi-site, multi-data center architecture is a plus
- Familiarity with network switching and routing fundamentals
- Experience with formal change management control.
- Ability to troubleshoot and understand desktop support at a CompTIA A+ level is expected. A+ certification or introductory Microsoft certification is preferred
- A practical level of experience implementing and administrating common TCP/IP-based services, including DNS, DHCP, HTTP, FTP, SMTP, etc.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed. Ability to travel between campuses.
Physical Requirements:
Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or operation of machines (including inspection). Frequently subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside. Periodically subject to noise: There is sufficient noise to cause worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level. Periodically subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals. Periodically subject to atmospheric conditions: One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: Fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation. Periodically required to function in narrow aisles or passageways.
Essential Functions:
- Serve as the team lead in charge of the Universitys enterprise storage area network.
- Install, configure, support and troubleshoot Windows server OS, including, Server 2012, 2016,2019 and 2022
- Install, configure, support and troubleshoot MS SQL Server.
- Maintain, upgrade, and optimize University remote access application delivery platforms
- Assist with managing campus Active Directory and User Account Lifecycle
- Maintain, upgrade, and optimize University Private Cloud Solution
- Manage and Maintain M365 Azure, Exchange Online and Sharepoint.
- Identify, research, and propose new technologies, services, and/or products to enhance the functionality, and/or cost effectiveness of the Universitys network infrastructure.
- Maintain and improve the Universitys enterprise systems in order to provide maximum performance and reliability.
- Collaborate with OIT staff on projects and initiatives.
- Provide support for critical systems 24 hours a day, 7 days a week when on-call on a rotational basis.
- Work independently and perform the highest quality work in support of critical applications.
