Job Description
The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) seeks an Accounting Manager within the Financial Support Services (FSS) unit. FSS exists to provide business, financial, and budgeting operations and assistance to the 21 departments of CAS. Under the direction of the Assistant Director, this position will oversee general accounting services and manage staff. This team will work with a diverse group of business managers, department heads, and many other stakeholders throughout CAS to identify support needs and provide resources as available and necessary. The Accounting Manager will direct staff work directives both on short term and long-term tasks, setting business and college goals and objectives. The Accounting Manager will lead the post-award support team in providing services to any departments, centers, or programs that do not have adequate support in these areas.


Responsibilities
Account Management

  • Oversee departmental accounting compliance and cooperation with University and CAS policies and procedures, consulting with and advising departmental faculty and staff on University and CAS accounting practices.
  • Assist departmental staff, offering consultation related to account balances, budget projections, and compliance with fiscal policies.
  • Responsible for helping departments resolve a broad range of financial or business-related problems, including fiscal policy interpretation and requesting fiscal exception approvals from the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Finance.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for post-award accounting, developing processes to support departmental requests of post-award support for sponsored projects.
  • Track and manage awarded sponsored projects, documenting F&A and cost-share arrangements in order to ensure proper accounting of college required commitments for awarded projects and ensuring proper assignment of salary cost-share in DASH through labor distribution.


Supervision

  • Manage FSS research and general accounting activities and accounting staff, identifying and delegating tasks, creating workflow procedures, completing performance reviews and providing coaching as needed.
  • Identify support needs from department heads, business managers, and other departmental stakeholders.
  • Manage prioritization of FSS accounting staff resources and develop sustainable processes to maintain efficient and timely support to departments.
  • Collaborate with accounting team to resolve ongoing issues.
  • Monitor output for accuracy and develop internal customer support strategies and standards.


Training

  • Develop and provide appropriate training to 5 accounting staff within FSS to ensure quality service to CAS administration and CAS departments.
  • Provide up-to-date financial training for departmental financial support staff.
  • Evaluate existing departmental internal business procedures to recommend and implement improvements, including but not limited to areas for collaborative or shared services.



Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's Degree with 3 years of accounting experience; or an Associate's Degree with 4 years of accounting experience; or a High School Diploma with 6 years of accounting experience


Preferred
  • One year of supervisory experience
  • Experience with sponsored project post-award accounting


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):

Required
  • Knowledge of general accounting practices
  • Skilled in general office word processing, spreadsheet applications, and financial/HR platform
  • Skilled at communicating and working effectively with a diverse population of administration, faculty, staff, students, outside individuals
  • Ability to interpret financial reporting and ensure accuracy, communicating effectively to those less familiar with financial terminology and practices
  • Ability to adapt to changing policies, procedures and organizational demands
  • Ability to manage diverse employees in a wide variety of tasks and responsibilities


Preferred
  • Knowledge of UT policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of sponsored project policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Uniform Guidance and Federal Acquisition Regulation.
